siblings

Time is flying by. I see it in my eleven-year-old’s face and voice. His pants are short again. He asks me to measure him. We find that he is now two inches taller since his birthday! That was only eight months ago. My nine-year-old’s desire to dress-up grows less and less with each passing day. I found a cardboard, sheriff badge I quickly made when he and my husband were playing dress-up years ago. I unexpectedly felt a lump in my throat when I saw it; they are growing up.

This past year has been a whirl.  When I look at pictures of my sons holding their tiny, new sister I can’t believe how much they have grown and matured; all three of them.
They have been such a great help in so many ways. Although they are growing up, they have a tenderness for their sister. They adore her and are so good with her.
They sing to her, read to her, dance with her and make her laugh like no one else.  She searches their usual nooks to find them in the mornings. When she wakes up from a nap they gently pick her up and hold her.
She walks around putting toys to her ear and talks to her oldest brother on the “phone.”

Now, at thirteen months, when they get their coats on to go ride their bikes, she insists on getting her coat on so she can be with them outside.
She watches them swing and chase each other out the sliding glass door.

When they see her adoring smile and small frame pressed up against the window they can’t resist running over and giving her a kiss and talking to her!

She watches them, studies them and is now beginning to copy their laugh, expressions and movements. She calls for them from the other room and her gaze quickly jumps from my eyes to where she thinks she hears them.
This bonding is so beautiful to watch.
She loves them so!

Wow!

Wow! 2015 is right around the corner and I can’t believe it! This year has flown by so quickly and it’s been crazy busy but crazy fun too!

My little girl is eleven-months-old today! Eleven months! She is such a delight and joy in our home and our hearts!

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas! My oldest came up and I have enjoyed the whole family being together under one roof! Outside of salvation, this really is one of the best gifts a mother can receive…her whole family, healthy, joyful, together! Everything else is just extra!

So the house has exploded with baby stuff: a diaper pail, changing pads, tiny pink clothes, a highchair, a tub, strollers, toys, books, gates, teething rings, spoons, bowls, bibs and bows! Bows…that’s a first for us! It’s crazy as I step over this stuff and I have to laugh as I remind myself this too shall pass! I’ve already passed along the play mat, swing, bouncy seat and all the clothes under six months!

This little girl is a sweetie! She is a very happy girl! She loves her daddy and her brothers! I am like a baby magnet…when she sees me she automatically smiles and crawls towards me! It’s so cute! She is a very strong and determined wee one! I’ve been so fortunate that she has been very healthy, except for the colic (which was gone early on), she has had a couple colds and that’s it! Praise the Lord!

She is holding on to things while walking but hasn’t taken those first solo steps yet! Soon, very, soon! She babbles, smiles, laughs, giggles, dances and loves to play hide and seek! She loves daddy playing the piano, playing with her brothers, reading books and listening to Baby Einstein music! She recently learned how to point and wave bye-bye and loves to show off her new talents!

My two youngest boys have been a HUGE help! They have moved into this big brother role so smoothly! They play with her, help me when she is fussy, or watch her when I need throw in a load of laundry! They are so gentle with her! She looks for them first thing when she gets up in the morning! My oldest comes up as often as he can so they can bond.  And they Facetime as much as they can too! She absolutely loves her oldest brother!

We can’t help but fall in love with her more and more each week! We feel so blessed!

I am excited for what this next year has in store for us!

I hope that this New Year is filled with adventure, joys and blessing for you!!

Blessing to you all!

sweet music

His little girl, Adelaide, thought she was hearing fireworks and couldn't sleep. So he thought singing a song together would distract her!  Too Cute!

Happy Monday!

love never fails

I read the passage below to my boys today.
I’ll be honest, when I opened the Bible to read,
my middle son disappointedly said, “Ohh.”
I told him I understood and that I felt that way
when I was a child sometimes too;
I was a Pastor’s kid ya' know.

But I also told him that this is his only floatation device
that will work when the storms come, he smiled,
and baby, they will come.
I said I know he didn’t fully understand what I was saying
but one day, when he was older, he would.

The world offers a beautiful buffet of wonderful and
customized distractions all conveniently within our reach.
But like sugar, they give us that quick, temporary high
and then the crash follows leaving us craving for something more.

It is my job to prepare my children to focus on the positive
and reach for the right tools during the hard times
they will inevitably encounter.
I want awesome things that will last in their survival kit.

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

hearts and more hearts

I hung up our melted-crayon, wax-paper
hearts this week. Martha Stewart has an easy
step-by-step guide if you are interested
 in making them.

They do add that extra color
that is desperately lacking in the month of February.

I also cut out some little, paper hearts
and put happy words on them.
Later on, when we went to a park,
which the boys lovingly call, “The Dinosaur Park,”
I taped a couple of the hearts around the playground.

My boys asked if it was alright to do that.
I told them it was O.K.
Plus it wasn’t permanent and when
we come back another day I would take the tape off.
Those hearts made me smile.
And thinking of some tired mother
or lonely child reading them
makes me smile even bigger!
Have a great day!

happy ice decorations

The weather has been very cold and as grey and gloomy as Eeyore. So I made some happy, colored, ice decorations to hang on the tree out back and they turned out pretty cute!

I filled five silicone, heart baking cups with water and put a couple drops of red food coloring in them and set them outside to freeze. It was colder than the ‘Hundred Years of Winter’ in Narnia so they froze pretty quickly. Next, I put cold water in a cake pan and set it out side for about an hour to chill. When I brought the cake pan back inside, I popped the red hearts out of the baking cups and put them in the cake pan and then set a small glass in the top where the ribbon would go. I put the whole pan back outside. Again, it froze pretty quickly. When it was completely frozen, I brought the pan back in for a couple minutes and the heat in the house loosened the ice and it slid right out. The glass somehow tilted and a little water froze underneath. I just filled the glass with hot water twisted the glass out and then chipped the ice away to finish the hole for the ribbon.
I really liked how it turned out!

The heart one was easy too. I just took a Jello mold, filled it with water and put a couple drops of red food coloring. I set it outside and stuck the middle of a pink, satin ribbon down in the water and it froze with that little bit of ribbon inside. I then popped it out and tied it up on a branch where the boys and I could see it.
It’s something small but it adds a bit of color to my day!

a lot to be thankful for

On this last day of August, I am reflecting over our summer and it has been a really great summer for our family. Last year, our summer project was tearing down an old deck, breaking up concrete and regrading the backyard. It was exhausting and consumed our entire summer. This summer was more relaxing and our only house project was hitting our 1970’s basement which is in much need of TLC. We are breaking that project up in small baby steps. That left time to really relax and enjoy each other, work out at the gym, serve at our church, fellowship with friends and family and meet some new friends too!

Our family did say goodbye to several friends and loved ones and through faith we believe we will see them once again in heaven. Some that left were as young as 44 and others, though seasoned with age, it still seemed too soon to say goodbye. Each touched our lives in many ways and, in time, we will find a place for our grief. We will take what they have impressed on us and share it with others.

With life so fleeting, I am reminded to slow down, yet again, and look into my children’s eyes and really look at them, really listen, and linger a little longer as I hug them and tuck them in at night. Yes, there will always be house projects and life gets messy and loud, but they are only little once; once. You never get that time back. So I am soaking in their energy, laughter and never ending questions and focusing on being joyful and content with what I have been given.

And boy, do I have a lot to be thankful for!

... and so much more!

my heart glitters

Our house might not have much pink glitter in it,
but when my boys bring me a leaf
in the shape of a heart,
my heart glitters!

God is Good. God is Always Good!

Dear friends of ours
welcomed a beautiful, baby girl
into their family today.

Happy Birthday
Chloe!

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

moments of reflection

Time pauses briefly and allows me to breathe in moments.
Today, I am enjoying moments of reflection.
Moments that entwined with other people whom I love
who challenged me to grow into the woman I am today.
I am blessed. I am humbled.
I am still becoming who I am meant to be.

If we discover a desire within us
that nothing in this world can satisfy,
also we should begin to wonder if perhaps
we were created for another world.

fathers

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father’s Day to the men out there who pick up their asses (yea, I just said that) and work hard day in and day out, teach their children what it means to keep their promises and do the thankless, grunt work like nobodies business!!! Also, Happy Father’s Day to the women out there who have to fill both parenting roles and do the same as above!

A Big Shout Out to the fathers who are away from their families and friends sacrificing more than I can ever imagine to proudly serve this country!! Thank You! You make all of us proud!

A big thanks to my husband for all the crazy stuff he did this past week
; sitting through a ridiculously long meeting, reading a book with me, banging up the concrete in our back yard every day, buying metal trash cans and a new shovel, riding bikes with the boys, taking son to the doctors, holding son down to get antibiotic shots while he screamed, picking up prescriptions, taking other son to a cool park that is far away, helping oldest son with music theory questions, watching four kids so a friend and I could go to a funeral, fixing the printer, setting up traps, playing LEGO ®, Playmobil, Matchbox ® cars and dress up with the boys, making awesome breakfasts, catching spiders, filling up both of our gas tanks, picking the kids up from grandmas, taking me out for a dinner and a movie and kissing me under the full moon!

He goes above and beyond and we are thankful!

A big thanks to my Dad, who took the time to show me how to use tools and also to not be afraid to take things apart, how to paint a room, made me hand-made birthday cards, helped me buy my first car, taught me to question things further, how to be frugal and how to play a mean game of ping-pong!
But most of all, he showed me how to show kindness to the least of these. Thanks, Dad!

he found them

He found them.

He hasn’t fit in them for some time and I set them aside in a pile of clothes to give away to a cousin.

But he found them.

From the other room, he said, “Mom, I want to show you something. Are you ready?”

“Yes, I am ready.”

His face was beaming with true love as he rounded the corner and galloped towards me.

“My Cowboy Pants!!! They Still Fit!!!”

He didn’t mind that his 2T cowboy pants actually looked liked knickers.

He found them.

Like an old friend they were inseparable all day!

Saturday, April 16

But for now...

Little vases are lined up on my counter again.

Little, muddy fingers bring in their colorful contents.

Little, beaming faces of love that one day.....their wife will enjoy.

But for now....they are mine to enjoy.

Little gifts of love from above!
