happy ice decorations

The weather has been very cold and as grey and gloomy as Eeyore. So I made some happy, colored, ice decorations to hang on the tree out back and they turned out pretty cute!

I filled five silicone, heart baking cups with water and put a couple drops of red food coloring in them and set them outside to freeze. It was colder than the ‘Hundred Years of Winter’ in Narnia so they froze pretty quickly. Next, I put cold water in a cake pan and set it out side for about an hour to chill. When I brought the cake pan back inside, I popped the red hearts out of the baking cups and put them in the cake pan and then set a small glass in the top where the ribbon would go. I put the whole pan back outside. Again, it froze pretty quickly. When it was completely frozen, I brought the pan back in for a couple minutes and the heat in the house loosened the ice and it slid right out. The glass somehow tilted and a little water froze underneath. I just filled the glass with hot water twisted the glass out and then chipped the ice away to finish the hole for the ribbon.
I really liked how it turned out!

The heart one was easy too. I just took a Jello mold, filled it with water and put a couple drops of red food coloring. I set it outside and stuck the middle of a pink, satin ribbon down in the water and it froze with that little bit of ribbon inside. I then popped it out and tied it up on a branch where the boys and I could see it.
It’s something small but it adds a bit of color to my day!

s.m.i.l.e

I stumbled upon Color Me Katie’s blog a while ago and found it happy and, well, happy! When life gets blue, I bypass my regular news websites and choose to focus on positive things to keep moving. Those things are, in order; God’s promises in the Bible, going down my mental list of things I am forever thankful for, extra sleep, eating healthy food, saying no to unnecessary stuff, calling family, taking a walk and perusing happy/inspiring websites.

When I saw the little things Katie did around her neighborhood just to make someone smile, I giggled. Check out this link that inspired me to paint my own little rock. I have it outside my door and every time I walk in my house I smile.

I may just make some more and put them around the neighborhood!

God is Good. God is Always Good!

Dear friends of ours
welcomed a beautiful, baby girl
into their family today.

Happy Birthday
Chloe!

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

encouragement

Stephanie Nielson never fails to deliver an encouraging perspective.
If you need encouragement today,

Ps. I've been busy, all good stuff, I’ll recap on my class and other fun things soon!

I'll never get tired of little boys racing over to me
with smiles on their faces, dirt and all,
 delivering “flowers” for their mama.

being thankful

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

For those of you who have lost loved ones, I pray that you will remain strong and focus on the positive things that person taught you and try to emulate their best qualities.

To those of you who have loved ones away from home, serving our great country, I say thank you for your incredible sacrifice. I pray too that you would remain strong, ask for support when you need it and find creative ways to stay focused on the tasks at hand.

Ultimately, I have so much to be thankful for, I could write a book. But mostly, I am thankful for a God who loves me and brings me true joy and hope. (Notice that I did not say happiness) For me that is the only reason to wake up in the mornings, kiss my three boys, endure incredible hardships, to forgive myself and others and…….notice and appreciate the little things!

I would encourage you to think of one person to call to encourage today or even to drop off some pumpkin bread.

One small act of kindness has an amazing impact.

Not only on the person receiving but the one giving.

Happy Thanksgiving!

a Halloween workspace

Uh, Oh...you forgot to ‘decorate’ your workspace for Halloween.
Don’t worry, I've got you covered.
On your next break, zip over to a craft or dollar store and grab a bag of googly eyes. I snagged some eyes at Jo-Ann Fabrics for 49 cents ~ cha-ching! Once you are back at your workspace, locate any adhesive: tape, glue or chewing gum (alright, scratch the last one) and put it on the back of some googly eyes. Look for anything to stick these eyes on (except co-workers, family members and pets). Below are some ideas my boys and I came up with….Have Fun!!!

Warning: Googly Eyes on office supplies can produce smiles, giggles and laughter. They can also alleviate the mood of all who see them. Also, keep out of reach of small children or co-workers/family members that are hungry.

: )

(I know. We really had too much fun!)

I hope this made you smile. Pass the FUN along!

The music is

fun!

I think I have a weakness for finger snapping in music.

Have a great weekend…or as I say to my oldest,

smile

On gray days, I put on my brightest top,
make sure I talk to my sister on the phone
(even just for a minute),
send the boys outside to “play”,
set some time aside to pray and collect my thoughts,
take an extra B complex
and

sometimes
I watch a video or two that makes me smile

this video makes me smile

and this video challenges me
to be thankful for whatever
God has brought in to my life
